Come Let Us Reason

Today, reply is on the process and value of prayer among mature Christian believers. Many Christians think of prayer as a sacred device to privately share their own personality, thoughts, and inner understanding with GOD. For them prayer is confessional, contemplative, and intimate. Even so, it remains that every believer eventually must genuinely apply, display and respond to all the sacred gifts and inseparable aspects of divine fullness bestowed on themselves. What otherwise would be secret and unknown will be openly shown as commitment, righteousness and unselfish service. One of the fighters in the Religion and Spirituality public forum at “Yahoo! Answers” using the ID “✞ 2 …hunter” (Level 7 with 45,435 points, a member since August 18, 2011) posted the following:

“✞ 2 …hunter”, the GOD who is our Creator is also a divinity that continuously performs judgment to determine duration for the things created according to their full spirit content and effect in sacred operations. Among Christian believers the operations of prayer are vital to the appearance and manifestation of created beings joined together as a church and spirit body filled with substance from the makeup of GOD, and permanently joined to one another. As vessels that contain aspects of divine fullness (i.e., the Godhead; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit), developing Christians are to exist on the earth as the children and offspring of GOD, joint heirs with Jesus Christ, and the new creation. Included are inseparable aspects of divine fullness such as faith, holiness, longsuffering, lovingkindness, righteousness, wisdom, and wrath against sin. Prayer affirms the integrity and sacred personhood within the living that permits communication, exchange and interaction with divinity, and that acknowledges divine authority, dominion, prerogative (grace), eternal purpose, and the sovereign will of GOD. The living make requests of divinity as the origin and source for all that pertains to godly change, existence, growth, and nourishment. Consider again the following that uses language from the Bible:

1. Isaiah 55: 7-11, King James Version (KJV): 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

2. Colossians 1: 9-20, KJV: 9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

There is far more that should be said, correctly examined, and spiritually apprehended. (For example, 3. James 5: 13-20, KJV: 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.) The Shield of Faith

 

Today, a reply is shared on the character and nature of faith as well as on the practice of  Christian believers praying for “more faith.”  Prayer fosters the development of spiritual consciousness; and is a turning of ones awareness and self-will away from the operations of sin to exist having oneness without sameness through the active presence who is GOD.  Often, healing, miracles, signs, and other sacred events thought to be answers and outcomes that follow prayer also may appear following periods of fasting, re-dedication, praise, sacrifice, and unselfish service.  The sacred process of prayer is best understood as the emanating and receiving of sacred substance more than one of dialogue and verbal exchange.  Believers must experience a joining with divine person more than multiple language events to make detailed confessions of need, register complaints, or make requests to satisfy fleshly desires and lusts.  (It is written:  Romans 8:  26, King James Version (KJV):  26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:  for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:  but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.)  For developing believers, prayer should result in assurances and acceptance of divine decisions, rulings, and warnings that can be discerned within their own circumstances and life events.  Prayer will not change, influence, or manipulate the immutable, incorruptible mind of divinity; however, the natural law that governs cycles, episodes and mechanical process can be suspended, or applied in rarely seen and unique combination.  Because angry decisions announced by GOD also are proclaimed in language that is “conditional”, and that may state specific criteria that will trigger the occurrence of a divine deed, prayer can change conditions and levels of readiness among men such that GOD will delay, “repent” and “reschedule” the expression of his wrath.  It requires faith to ask for “more faith;” the great need, then, can be for ability to correctly direct, recognize, and respond to faith that already is in place.  Thus, it was the faith Abraham displayed that GOD acknowledged as his righteousness, and not Abraham’s circumcision.  A fighter in the “Yahoo! Answers” forum using the ID “Dan” (Level 3 with 1,906 points, a member since October 27, 2012) posted the following:

 

Praying for more faith?

I’m not a christian, but I recently came across the idea where some christians pray for “more faith”. Could someone explain this to me?

From an agnostic position, this seems kinda silly as I would like to operate on more evidence (which seems impossible) and less faith. Having more faith that the moon is made of cheese seems to do nothing to make the moon more likely to be made of cheese — yet there’s a definite practice of christians praying not to have wishes granted, but to experience yet more faith because it is through faith they can achieve great works (mustard seed stuff).

“Dan”, GOD is a spirit, yet, in academic and worldly settings, we often speak of divinity as though the Creator is one of us—another individual who is carnal, material, secular, and social.  Among mature Christian believers, “faith” may be understood as an aspect of the full, inseparable spirit content (where you find one, you find them all in varying proportion) that is imparted from the makeup of divinity when a sinner repents and turns to Christ to become “born again.”  Included are faith, forbearance, forgiveness, holiness, joy, longsuffering, lovingkindness, personhood, righteousness, wisdom, and wrath against sin.

Water baptism depicts the unseen sacred process wherein the inborn spirit dies, is buried, and is raised from death.  A “developing believer” results who is a new creation through Jesus Christ, a child of GOD, and a joint-heir with the saints of the kingdom.  All Christians are to display their own endowment of the seed from GOD (one might say, their divine DNA).  Those born-again also must “grow up again,” and become mature by answering life challenges and “growing pains” along with the shared hardships and suffering of life on the earth.

Faith that is a spiritual gift is provided and received as a “double portion,” or second outpouring of divine inheritance.  Petitions and requests ought be made through prayer that faith within the church as a body be edified (built up), nourished, and permitted to complete its purpose and work of salvation without interruption.  Faith must reside within all leaders and on every level throughout the community of faith (e.g., choir members, deacons, parents, prayer warriors).  Faith is not a “coin” for acquiring and purchasing things we may covet and desire that are in the world (e.g., the house, the car, the good job, the spouse).  Faith does not have measurable dimensions (e.g., amount, depth, height, length, weight), for  faith is a spirit substance.  With this in view, as little faith as a mustard seed is not diminished in its divine authority and power.

Because our growth as believers does not go forward unopposed, we speak of the “good fight of faith.”  Certainty, holy boldness, and duration are established through the operations of faith; and our capacity to remain focused having godly expectation (we say, hope) is buttressed and reinforced.  Consider again the following that uses language from the Bible:

(1.)  1st Corinthians 12:  1-11, King James Version (KJV):  1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.  2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.  3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed:  and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.  4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.  7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.  8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;  9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;  10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:  11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

(2.)  Romans 4:  3-12, KJV:  3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.  4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.  5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.  6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,  7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.  8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.  9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.  10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.  11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised:  that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:  12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

There is a lot more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually understood.  (For example, (3.)  Ephesians 2:  8-10, KJV:  8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.  10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.

Acknowledging the visitation of Pope Francis to the Nation’s Capital and the United States of America, points are shared, today, on the widespread error among non-Catholics in criticizing Catholic expressions of faith, intimate relationship with Deity, and salvation through Jesus Christ.  In my experience, more often than not, those who condemn Catholic belief, practice, and worship do so having that profound ignorance that comes by dealing with subtleties (i.e., multiple barely visible differences or  unseen shifts in meaning and value), and are not a result of being entered into the lifetime of commitment for a Catholic believer with its continuous discipline, exhaustive study, and ongoing sacrificial practice.  While there are many who now claim title as atheists following years of experience within agencies and aspects of Catholic hierarchy, their anger, bitterness and complaints are not to be received as spiritual insight, revelation, and a critique from divinity that compares to those shared in the Bible for each of the seven churches of Asia.  Consider the following and the points appearing below:  Philippians 2:  5-15, King James Version (KJV):  5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:  7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:  8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.  14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

(1.)  The proper business of Protestant believers is not to argue, condemn, debate, dismiss and question the benefits or weaknesses of doctrine and practice among Catholic believers.  Completing the work of sharing the Gospel, preparing the body of believers for the Savior’s Advent, and reconciling oneself to judgment through confession, repentance, and sanctification is more necessary.  Those who repeatedly speak condemnation regarding such things as confession, genuflecting, or the mysteries of Rosary prayer usually do so having no part in those things, and speak from ignorance and common disbelief.  Romans 14:  4, King James Version (KJV):  4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up:  for God is able to make him stand.

(2.)  Many argue that Catholic (we say, universal) belief is unacceptable, because it goes beyond the Hebrew canon, the Gospels and new testament holy writings, and embraces such non-biblical texts as the Apochrypha and the writings of Saint Augustine.  In addition to Apostolic succession and traditions from the early church (established by those who were directly prepared and appointed through Jesus and the twelve), Catholics also acknowledge writings by others regarded as appointed and endowed through the Holy Spirit (we say, Church Fathers), including historians and scholars that, in the early centuries following the resurrection of Jesus, established the authenticity of early documents and teachings.  John 10:  15-17, KJV:  15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father:  and I lay down my life for the sheep.  16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold:  them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.  17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

(3.)  In addition to formal instruction (catechism) provided to all members, Catholics may depend upon formal writings developed by the Bishops, the Popes, and other men of faith (we say, churchmen).  Given that the household of faith  founded through the blood of Jesus may be spoken of as the Bride of Christ, for many Catholics the authority of the Church is understood to be similar to, where not equal to,  that of the Husbandman.  The church is not to be a clone, a copy, a counterfeit, or a replacement for Jesus.  However, his wife is to be respected as a peer in 50-50 relationship, not as a concubine or slave.  Therefore, the business of “running the household” permits fixing Sunday as a day of rest and worship as well as calling forth aspects of new dispensation for those already ceased.  Isaiah 54:  5-8, KJV:  5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.  6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.  7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.  8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

(4.)  Where the church is seen operating upon a different platform of truth that seems to deny the things of the early believers this is often because the body of Christ must continue to respond as a ministry of reconciliation practiced by Jesus, and must answer to current aspects of human development, lapses or progress in ways that are not conservative, and that must display the peculiar risk-taking required by believers having to continue upon the earth.  John 14:  11-13, KJV:  11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me:  or else believe me for the very works’ sake.  12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.  13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.)

(5.)  Where the church has been received as a body composed of the quick and the dead, it is neither impossible nor unreasonable that holy convocation would include the appearing of all believers from every age.  Clearly, the action and input from those in flesh will be different from those whose spirit aspect is separated from their carnal form through death; and many secret things known only to divinity will be in effect and present.  Romans 8:  5-14, KJV:  5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God:  for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.  9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.  13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:  but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

There is far more to be considered, and carefully understood.  For example, (6.)  As among Catholics, Protestants acknowledge a principle that the church may receive the appointment of sacred officers and workers by the Holy Spirit.  Thus, just as Matthias was elected to serve as an apostle in place of Judas, such men as Martin Luther, Calvin, Newton and Zwingli are also being received as sent by GOD and his Christ.  Acts 1:  23-26, KJV:  23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.  24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,  25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.  26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.
